The Scarlet Letter (1850) is a novel written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, considered to be his "magnum opus", or most famous work. Set in 17th-century Puritan Boston, it tells the story of Hester Prynne, who gives birth after committing adultery and struggles to create a new life of repentance and dignity. Throughout the novel, Hawthorne explores themes of legalism, sin, and guilt.

लेखक नेथेनाइल हाथर्नको विश्वविख्यात अमेरिकी उपन्यास “द स्कार्लेट लेटर” हो । यसलाई नेपालीमा “कलंकिनी” शीर्षक दिएर पुण्यप्रसाद प्रसाईले अनुवाद गर्नुभएको छ । यो उपन्यास त्रिभुवन विश्वविद्यालयको स्नातकोत्तर तह प्रथम वर्षको कोर्समा पनि रहेको छ ।
